Welcome
We encourage applicants with both internal and family medicine backgrounds to apply for our fellowship. Applicants must have completed residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine successfully and in good standing prior to the start of their fellowship. ABIM or ABFM board-certified or board-eligible is preferred.
The UC WCH Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our program is one year in length and can accept up to four fellows per year.
Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and our fellow positions are only available through the NRMP. Applications are to be submitted through ERAS. Please utilize the resources below to complete your application. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Residency completed in the United States

Exceptionally Qualified Candidate Pathway
U.S. Clinical Experience Requirements for Exceptionally Qualified Candidates
Applicants pursuing the Exceptionally Qualified Candidate (EQC) pathway must demonstrate hands-on, recent clinical experience within the U.S. healthcare system. This ensures readiness to succeed in a 1‑year geriatric medicine fellowship to provide safe, supervised patient care.
Minimum Required Experience
Candidates must have at least one year of U.S. clinical experience in one of the following forms with the past 3 years:
Training in an ACGME‑accredited U.S. residency program (preferred)
Hands‑on clinical role(s) with direct patient care responsibilities in the U.S. healthcare system
An Observership alone does not meet the minimum requirement.
Documentation Required
Applicants must provide evidence of their U.S. clinical experience, such as:
Certificates of completion
Evaluations
Case logs
Written confirmation from supervising U.S. attending(s)
